archetypal characters series - THE GIRL IN RED

She is caught in the corner of eyes, snapped in photographs of those lucky and rarely-believed few. In both life and death, she was an enigma; a beautiful girl with a calling for the theatre but a mother who did not support her claim. A headline for months— GIRL AND MOTHER FOUND DEAD IN HOME— her name thrown up and around and everywhere, tossed to reporters and policemen and families who pretended to grieve for a girl they barely knew. Then she faded, became a myth, an urban legend, a ghost tale, a touch-a-fence-and-you-die double dog dare. But she is content.. because sometimes someone will catch her in their peripheral, see the red dress flashing by in what they convince themselves is their imagination, and she knows she’s not forgotten. She’d always wanted to be famous, after all.
